The Fencing Athlete

My name is Monica Aksamit and I have been fencing for 15 years.

Throughout my fencing career I have competed in competitions at all levels, National, International, World Championships, and Collegiate. I have made several Cadet, Junior and Senior National Teams. In 2008, I won a silver medal in the Junior Team event at World Championships.

I attended Penn State University and majored in Kinesiology. During my time there I became a 3 time All-American, 2 time NCAA Team Champion, and was the Runner-Up Champion during my Senior year.

While in pursuit of making the 2016 Olympics, I have been coaching fencing, and refereeing competitions at many different levels. These experiences have forced me to see the sport with a different perspective and have helped me become a wiser competitor.
